Problem
Fusion Conferences needed an online conference experience that could support scientific events when in-person attendance was not practical. A generic video-call tool was not enough. The platform needed to support talks, event scheduling, attendee access, and a more controlled experience for a specialist audience.
The challenge was to make the product feel focused on the conference workflow rather than forcing organizers and attendees to assemble that workflow from separate tools.
Role
I worked on the application as part of the Steadfast Collective team, contributing to the Laravel application and the video-conferencing product experience.
Stack
Laravel, Vue, Inertia, real-time video tooling, event management workflows, and custom conference features.
Implementation highlights
The platform had to bring several moving parts together: attendee access, conference sessions, video rooms, scheduling, and administrative control. For this kind of product, the technical work is not only connecting to a video provider. The important part is shaping the surrounding application so organizers can run an event and attendees can find the right session without friction.
That meant building workflows around the live-video experience, not treating video as an isolated embed. Access rules, session structure, and the surrounding content all needed to support the event format.
Outcome
The result was a bespoke conference platform tailored to the needs of scientific events. It gave organizers a dedicated online experience instead of a generic meeting setup, while keeping the application specific enough to the audience and event workflow.
